Steps to reproduce:
V 79.0b3. Tried force quit, reboot, launched again and still no window. Launched from terminal same results. Appended -ProfileManager and that loaded. Created test profile but main app still would not start. Attempted to launch in safe mode but still no window.
Downgraded to Version 78.1.0 which launched but found incompatible profile which forced me to create a new one. Instead I'm applying the latest Mac OS update to see if this resolves it.
Actual results:
Spinning beachball and menus listed but all unresponsive.
Expected results:
Thunderbird launches. It would also be terrific if profiles remained compatible between versions to give me a fall-back.
Confirmed Thunderbird application window also does not open after upgrading to Mac OS ver. 10.15.6.
Not seeing much log info for Thunderbird under console.
Let me know if there any log files that would be useful

The update mechanism is not broken - updates to 79.0b3 are disabled for Mac, is why you didn't get the update.
What you are seeing is bug 1655685 affecting Mac, which will be fixed in beta 80.
