A case for using seeking in the current track:

0. Install kdeconnect on both the desktop PC and mobile device (kdeconnect supports media control over MPRIS)
1. Open Firefox and play a film/video on a big screen
2. Go sit on a sofa far from the desktop PC
3. Use the mobile device with kdeconnect as a control device to seek the video backward and forward without leaving the sofa.

Chromium already supports that, in case that helps.
