Steps to reproduce:

Running Thunderbird 78.2.2 (64-bit) on MacOS Catalina 10.15.6.
Operating standard theme. No manual CSS changes, no active add-ons.

MacOS automatically switches from the regular to a dark theme at night, and back to the regular theme in the morning.

I last used Thunderbird at night when the dark theme was active, and left the computer running until the next morning, when MacOS had switched back to the regular theme.

Actual results:

New messages in the message list were displayed with white font color on white background, leading to them becoming illegible. The same happens for the message I'm selecting in the message list. See attached screenshot.

Closing and re-starting Thunderbird solves the issue, while it re-occurs with every OS theme change from dark to regular.

Expected results:

Message list also shows new and selected messages with black font color when the OS's regular color theme becomes active.

I can confirm this bug. Maybe it's related to Firefox bug 1558086?

This is still an issue as of Mac Big Sur 11.4; I'm attaching a screenshot of it being a problem in the OpenPGP setup screen in Thunderbird 78, which was really quite upsetting as I had no idea what I was agreeing to and whether it would impact my security.

Does this still reproduce when using version 91? And if you resolved the problem, what was the solution?
