I have a layout with three areas: directory list, email list, email content.

The first two have vertical scrollbars.

The last doesn't have vertical or horizontal scrollbars when the content doesn't fit and so they would be needed.

This is a regression in Thunderbird 78.5.0.

Marco, which OS are you on?
Does it happen after Help > Restart with addons disabled?

Does it happen for all messages or just some messages?

I'm on Linux.
It happens in safe mode too.

All messages as far as I can tell.

Screenshot attached.

Which flavor of Linux?
Are you using a distro supplied Thunderbird? Or downloaded from thunderbird.net?

Flags: needinfo?(mcastelluccio)

I'm on Debian, I'm using the Thunderbird supplied by Debian.

I've also tested with the build from thunderbird.net, and I can reproduce there too.

Using Thunderbird 78.5.0 on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS I have both a vertical and horizontal scrollbar in the Message pane when using the Vertical view layout and I resize the Thread or Folder panes larger, or have the Today pane enabled.

It appears that the Vertical layout is what the reporter is using by the screenshot.

I've just noticed some emails do have a scrollbar, so it's not happening to all of them.

Emails from Bugzilla don't have scrollbars.

Emails from Bugzilla don't have scrollbars.

The emails from Bugzilla reflow when the columns are resized in Classic view and scrollbars appear.

This does not happen using your Vertical view when the Message pane is made smaller.

Thanks much to Wayne for pointing out that this might relate to bug 1669063.
Looking at the screenshot of attachment 9189703 [details], it's actually a plain duplicate of that.

As seen in screenshot, delete button is half-visible. Header toolbar was removed and force-changed to text+icon with customization removed (bug 1556261), and it doesn't have any overflow mechanisms, hence force-expanding the msg preview underneath which in turn disappears the scrollbar.
