Steps to reproduce:
I have opened messages in multiple tabs and windows (by moving a new tab into a new window). Everything worked fine in this session.
- Then I quit Thunderbird completely (asserted this using
ps -aux), started it again.
Actual results:
Error message occurs:
2. "The account *** is being processed. Please wait until processing is complete to get messages."
(original German: "Das Konto *** wird bearbeitet. Bitte warten Sie, bis der Vorgang abgeschlossen ist, um Nachrichten abzurufen.")
where *** is an email account (POP3, for the IMAP there are no issues, or maybe it is because it is the first in my list)
Expected results:
- Do NOT restore tabs on new start. I cleared cache ctrl+shift+del but this has no effect.
Unfortunately this addon https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/dontrestoretabs/ is not longer supported
This recommendation is a bit disappointing: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1049412
A simple solution might be to delete session.json (e.g. using bleachbit or manually) but there shall be definitely an option to clear the session on closing (or at least integrate it into ctrl+shift+del option) in order to avoid this issue

It is unclear to me what 1, 2, 3 of comment 0 have to do with each other.
Regardless, a) what is your primary objective, b) does this reproduce when using version 78?

main objective: avoid trouble with the error message mentioned in my initial posting
recommended fix to devs: do not restore open tabs when restarting thunderbird
possible fix to users: remove session.json file

I see the account is being processed message occasionally, and it is easily dismissed and closes after all messages for that account have been processed. (Mainly after creating the first account when testing a release candidate)
Just tested closing and reopening my TB 78.9.0 on Fedora 33 with multiple tabs, and the tabs did remain open. I honestly thought all did close except for the Folder Pane and Calendar tabs. I'm not a heavy tab user, but I can right-click in the tabs I want to remain open and use the "Close Other Tabs" context menu item to close the others.
