start Mozilla Profile manager and then press ALT+TAB and see the icon that is used for the Profile Manager in the taskswitcher. It's the standard windows icon. Doesn't look that good. Couldn't we use the standard Mozilla icon?
problem does not occur in n7
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021212] Bug confirmed. I suggest to update the Summary to make it clear that Profile Manager is involved, not the Browser. (I did not try with MailNews, mail Composer, etc) (see comment 1) If Netscape v7 does not have this bug, the fix should be "at hand" !?
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021212] Same bug with: *(Profile Manager) *Preferences *Form M., Cookie M., Image M., Pop-up M., Password M. Do not have the current bug (== have customized icons): *Bookmarks *Download M., JavaScript Console *Navigator (& Open File, & Save As, & Page Source, & Page Info, etc), Mail & Newsgroups, Composer (web page), Address Book, Compose (email)
[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312] Bug still there.
Addition to my comment 3: The "windows" which have the default icon in the TaskSwitcher (Alt-Tab), also have no icon in the TaskBar (next to Windows "Start" button); whereas the "windows" which have a customized icons in TS, also have one in the TB.
This bug is related to bug 192703, but isn't going to be fully fixed by it. The reason for this bug is that as it has no icon inserted into the application bar of the window, windows uses the default icon for task switching. There is currently no icon for profile manager in the Mozilla tree. Netscape, OTOH, has one. I created an icon for Mozilla and it will be placed into the tree for Mozilla once bug 192703 is checked in. At that point, you can insert it into the application bar with probably five lines of code, and this bug will be fixed. The same is the case for the help window. As I already created an icon for it, once its checked into the tree through bug 192703, you will also be able to fix that. you can view help via "mozilla -chrome chrome://help/content" This bug is dependant on that one.
Depends on: 192703
In Windows XP, it shows the application icon in the taskbar (the red T-Rex), but not within the actual window or for task switching.
I was wrong about Help, btw. Help doesn't have this issue, because they inserted the dino into the window. It still should have a custom icon, anyway. Confirmed on Windows XP for: Password Manager Image Manager Cookie Manager Form Manager Preferences (Are there bugs filed for all these)? Popup Manager has no icon when task switching. Its probably a child window. All of the other windows should have the same done, or have their own icons (preferably the latter -- looks more professional).
Re comment 8: About Popup M., May be the current bug, or bug 192703, should depend on bug 198250 also !? About the other managers and Pref., I think there are no other bug opened: I am not sure, but I could have done some search before my comment 3 already ?
>(Are there bugs filed for all these)? See bug 158665.
Re comment 10: You're right: I did forget bug 158665 in comment 9. The current bug summary is about "TaskSwitcher"; bug 158665 summary is about "TaskBar". (Brian) Based on comment 5 (and 6), would a common fix resolve both bugs at once, or are they two (closely related but) different bugs ? To be more precise: In comment 5, when I wrote 'next to Windows "Start" button', I meant "the active tasks" (== not using Alt-Tab), not a "QuickLaunch area" which I don't have in my W95 setup.
Re comment #9. It would be nice to make bugs depend on related bugs so that developers would have to fix all related bugs as they fixed another bug, in theory. Of course, that's not fair to the developers, and related != dependant. See bug 12286 for a "related bugs" feature. Re comment #11: It would make the most sense to fix them all at the same time, but doing so might entail creating icons for all the other operating systems, also (which makes it even more silly to make bug 192703 depend on it). The correct way to do it without the related bugs feature being implemented is to simply mark them all dependant of this bug if the patch incorporates bug bug 158665, this bug, and bug 198250 (which would make the most sense). If there were like 15 related bugs, a META bug would make more sense.
Re comment 12: Learning from your comment, it seems that I underestimated the "power" of the dependency feature. If I understand correctly your comment, bug 158665 and bug 198250 (and this one) are different bugs, and depdendency relationship should not be added yet. Bug 192703 developer(s) would add then if/when they apply.
