Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/91.4.0

Steps to reproduce:

After updating to 91.4.0 the program restarted and it no longer immediately checks the server for any incoming emails.

Actual results:

I have to press either F5 or Get Messages to check for emails or wait several minutes for the automatic email check set for every 1 minute to kick in.

Expected results:

When the application starts it should automatically check the server for any incoming emails. I never had to wait before, why do I have to wait or start refreshing the screen or hitting Get Messages now? Efficient programming for optimum productivity reducing keystrokes should be paramount. They had it right in earlier versions and not now. Please fix this annoying issue. Thank you so very much.

Referencing bug 1741672, please first correct that default account is not set to Local Folders.

Issue: Check for new messages on startup

I've researched the internet regarding TB failing to automatically check for new messages on startup and there is a long documented history of this issue occurring with many TB versions. I find it difficult to believe that the programming guru's at TB or Mozilla cannot figure out a simple solution.

I verified that under Server Settings Check for new messages at startup is ticked. If this function never worked I would not be asking for a fix, I would be requesting an enhancement. I've tried unticking it, closing the app and restarting, no luck. I've then ticked it again, closed app and restarted, no luck.

Please resolve this issue.

Thank you.

Is the server IMAP or POP?

POP.
I think that the TB app default should always be to set to automatically download messages on startup and the user should have to toggle that off if they don't want it. It's not like it didn't work previously but for some reason certain updates made it not function as designed.

POP
Windows 10
Server Settings are to automatically Check for New Messages on Startup

Until the programming is fixed is there any way that the F5 key can be invoked automatically after startup to kick start the application to
Check for New Messages on Startup?

Please advise. Thank you.
