For the longest time, I didn't know that I could declare any folder to be my
Personal/Bookmark Toolbar Folder. I'd been trying to perform this action with
the folder context menu (i.e., right-click). It feels much more intuitive than
via View (or Edit).
This seems like a reasonable request. Setting bug status to New.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
OS: Windows XP → All
Summary: "Set as Personal Folder" should be in folder context menu → Add "Set as Bookmark Toolbar folder" to the bookmarks folder context menu
I would like to second this request (and so I voted for it), since I too had
trouble finding the "Set as Bookmark folder", even though I was looking for it!

First I expected it in the context menu (not there), then I looked in the
properties of a folder (not there either) and finally in the menus "File" and
"Edit" (as you know: not there). At a quick glance at "View" I missed the item
at the end, since I saw only items which manipulate the way bookmarks are shown
in the bookmarks manager (toolbar?, which columns and what order).

Almost any place would be better.
Dupe of Bug 196252?

This patch modifies
'en-US/locale/en-US/browser/bookmarks/bookmarks.properties', to set the text of
the menu item, though the "View->Set as Bookmarks Toolbar Folder" uses the
setting in 'en-US/locale/en-US/browser/bookmarks/bookmarks.dtd'. Can these be
unified?

Due to bug #205739 I can only assume this works, though it can't be tested
until cmd_bm_setpersonaltoolbarfolder is working again.
Hi, I just downloaded the BeOS version of FIREFOX.
I got a small bug, related to the BOOKMARKS setting.
When done with the mouse and using ADD BOOKMARK, the browser gives a error and
stops executing.
When done with alt-d , it works fine. No problem.

That's bug 225778. This bug's totally separate because it's on all platforms,
and it's more of an RFE than a bug.
We're going to come up with something better after 1.0, say 1.1
Target Milestone: Firefox1.0 → After Firefox 1.0

I see ben already after-1.0'd this, but for 1.0, I'd be inclined to move this
menu item into the Edit menu, not the View menu. It really makes no sense in
the View menu.

We don't have this option anymore with Places, for various reasons.

What is "Places"? (How does it lead to a WONTFIX disposition?)

http://wiki.mozilla.org/Places:

Places is a new system for storing bookmarks, history, and
other information about pages. It is currently enabled in
trunk builds, and will debut in Firefox 3. ...

There is no "Set as Bookmarks Toolbar Folder"-function in the new UI anymore, so this isn't a bug applicable to FF3 anymore.
> There is no "Set as Bookmarks Toolbar Folder"-function in the new UI

Does that mean there is not bookmarks toolbar, or just that the bookmarks
toolbar is not implemented via making a bookmarks folder special?
At least in RC1 the toolbar is not implemented via making a bookmarks folder special. But if you are interested in FF3 I suggest you just download it and give it a try.
