User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/104.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
After Thunderbird updated to 102.2.0 (64-bit) this morning, I noticed that the list of messages in the Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Archives, Junk and Trash folders disappeared. However, I am able to see the list of messages in the subfolders under those folders and to open the messages from there. I did a System Restore, which took Thunderbird back to 91.13.0 (64-bit), but the problem persisted. Because it was still not working after the System Restore, I updated Thunderbird again to 102.2.0, still without effect.
Actual results:
List of messages in these folders still not visible. However, symbols like stars, radial dots and arrows still show, as though they are placeholders for the actual messages I am not seeing.
Expected results:
The lists of messages in the respective folders should be displayed.

captured from reporter's screen shot
Make sure 'Message Pane is enabled.
Check to see if there is an invisible list by selecting emails in that 'invisible' list to see if the contents do appear in the Message Pane.
If they do appear in Message Pane then do this:
You have various column headers visible eg: From, Subject ,Date. To the right of these column headers is the 'select columns to display' icon. click on the far right 'select columns to display' icon to see drop down options. Click on 'Restore column order' .
Does this make the emails in list reappear ?

Thank you for your help, Anje.
Clicking the individual lines in the "invisible" list in the Inbox does not produce anything in the message pane. However, let me add that the message pane does display normally when I click on any subfolder of the Inbox that holds incoming email for a specific email address. I then see the list of email that has been received for that address and have no trouble clicking on any of the messages and seeing them in the message pane. I can open and reply to them. That part is working fine.
When I then click on the parent folder "Inbox" I temporarily continue to see the list of messages that are in the subfolder (the display does not rewrite itself to display the contents of the parent Inbox). Sliding the cursor into the pane with the list immediately causes the list of subfolder messages to disappear and I see only the placeholder symbols for all the messages that should be visible in the Inbox. The same behavior occurs for each of the main folders: Inbox, Drafts, Sent, etc.
Clicking the "Restore column order" did not change anything.
Thanks again for your input. Any other ideas?

Yes, I tried help and troubleshoot mode, but I did not understand well enough what I saw to get any further.

What you need to do is to choose the continue in troubleshoot mode, and then check the reported issue still manifests itself.
Try Right click on Inbox and select 'Properties'
Click on 'Repair folder'
Click on 'OK'

Try Right click on Inbox and select 'Properties'

Thank you, Anje! This was excellent advice.
Right clicking on "Inbox" (or any of the other folders where I was missing a list) and then Properties produced a box called "Edit Saved Search Properties for Inbox" [or for any other folder I worked on]. This action did not include a "Repair folder" option. I decided to click on Choose, which opened a window that allowed me to select folders. I selected the problem folders and clicked OK. That closed the window and returned me to the prior window, where I clicked Update. A list of messages immediately appeared in the display of Inbox contents. The list was initially only from one of my two email subfolders, but by following your advice with the Repair Folder option for the subfolders (Repair Folder is indeed available when I click on any subfolder), I was able to ensure that all the mail in the subfolders is listed in the main folder pane.
Many thanks for the help.

I believe this is the same as bug 1778380
updated to 102.2.0 and Unified folder properties had the selected checkbox deselected.
