Do you happen to be using Avast, see bug 1783559.

Not Avast but its sister AV (AVG Free). And Email Shield is enabled. Does that cause the interference?
A while back I reported about an issue to AVG that they are making an interstitial to the email client with a self-signed certificate that is causing interference. Let me disable the shield and run the tests and confirm you the same.

As of now the temporary workaround is to disable Email Shield in AVG Antivirus till the antivirus vendor fixes their bug.
