Steps to reproduce:

Help About in my previous version was telling you are already update. But for the past couple of days getting a prompt that TB was not able to upgrade itself opening Thunderbird site. Then I downloaded the full installer to upgrade the same.

Actual results:

Auto upgrade from 102.2.x to 102.3 is not happening

Expected results:

Seamless upgrade to 102.3 should happen.

Some AV products such as Avast have been blocking updates.
Also, the update was not made available until 2pm eastern on 9/20.

When you have an update problem you can do the following to get debug info...

  1. Do Settings > General > type "config" into the search
  2. open Config Editor
  3. Search for "app.update.log" and set it to "true".
  4. Restart Thunderbird.
  5. Do Help > About
  6. Open Tools > Developer Tools > Error Console
  7. Type AUS into the filter
  8. Please copy/paste everything starting with "AUS:"

I already tried disabling AV. I tried 20th night (Indian Times and 21st morning also). TB shows the message that upgrade could not be completed as a toaster message on the top. Initially I did not pay heed to this message because I thought some other application is mimicing TB. Would have been good if the Toaster message is showed in the Help Update itself as log.

I already upgraded my TB. However as per the above steps enabled app_update.log. Then checked Help -> About. The message screenshot is enclosed for your reference.

Yes. I am using AVG Antivirus (from Avast)

This really looks like something blocked or tried to proxy the SSL connection to the update server. Other than one of us installing AVG and confirming that it breaks updates, there's not really anything we can do to the updater.
Logging the popups is a good idea, but separate from the SSL certificate issue. I'll make a note to look for an existing bug and open one if needed.

Today I got the warning message on TB again that it could download the new update. Help -> About was not able to check the same too. Hence I totally disabled AVG, closed TB and opened again. Now when I went to Help -> About it was able to download and restart TB to get the new version.

I am enclosing the new version number for your quick reference.

Thanks for checking. This is something AVG would have to fix.
