Steps to reproduce:

OS = Windows11

Tools ->Settings
(1) close message window/tab on move or delete not working = Checked
(2) open messages in a new message window = selected

Inbox -> Double Click any meassage (email)
Email opens in a new window (= good)
Click Delete button

Actual results:

Delete button goes grey - but Email window stays open

Expected results:

Email window closes

Correction:
Tools ->Settings
(1) close message window/tab on move or delete = Checked
(2) open messages in a new message window = selected

Does it happen when restarted with Help > Troubleshoot mode?

OK - this is wierd!

  1. Help->Troubleshoot mode. Restarted.
  2. Bug is 'gone'. Double click an email. Opens in new window. Click [Delete] button in that window. Windows closes.
  3. Help -> Turn off troubleshoot mode
  4. Bug still gone !
  5. Exit
  6. Restart Thunderbird.
  7. Bug still gone.

So somehow going into and out of Troubleshoot mode has 'fixed' something.
