Steps to reproduce:
I wrote mails. I made mistakes (on purpose) while writing.
Actual results:
Thunderbird doesn't recognize them as spelling mistakes while the spell checker is enabled in the options (however when I am in the writing window and I go to options, the spell checker is not checked but can't change it by clicking on it).
Expected results:
spell checking must work as usual.
I updated Thunderbird to 102.8.0 (64-bit) on Windows 10 (French version if it matters). No improvement. I tried on other computer with Thunderbird installed on it (windows 10), same problem. I created a new profile under Thunderbird, same problem.
There were no problems before a recent update (I would say less than 10 days). My wife has the same problem on her personal computer and at work using Thunderbird (Windows 11).

Bug 1818257. In the meanwhile you can manually re-install the dictionary.
