User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/111.0

Steps to reproduce:

1.) Hover over a UI element in Thunderbird like a button to cause a tooltip to appear.
2.) Alt-tab to another application or switch workspaces via a keyboard shortcut.

Actual results:

Thunderbird's tooltip remains on screen.

Expected results:

Thunderbird's tooltip should disappear.

The toolip can be manually dismissed by moving the mouse cursor over it, at least, even if the window directly below is a non-Thunderbird application, but it still shouldn't appear.

Tested on Thunderbird 102.9.0 with a new profile on Kubuntu 22.04 (KDE Plasma Version 5.24.7; KDE Frameworks Version 5.92.0; Qt Version 5.15.3) using X11. This did not occur in the previous version.

(Probably unrelated, but oddly Firefox's newest version, 111, just fixed a very similar issue bug 1569439, though in that case the tooltip couldn't be manually dismissed without re-focusing a Firefox window.)

Thanks. Please used bug nnnnn when referencing bug numbers, rather than URL.

I also tested this on Ubuntu 22.10 (a liveusb with no changes), so it happens in Gnome too. Though in that case I could reproduce the issue with Thunderbird 99.11.0, so maybe it's an earlier issue but I just didn't notice it on my regular KDE setup until more recently.

Tooltips not disappearing is supposed to be fixed in version 111 according to bug 1569438 and while it has been improved, tooltips still remain at times. Unfortunately bug 1569438 is now closed that's why I'm posting on here.

Sorry of course this should say bug 1569439

Probably a combination of bug 1809029 and bug 1569439

Probably a combination of bug 1809029 and bug 1569439

Thanks poncho!
I keep seeing this with Thunderbird. Of course it's caused by FF. Should keep our own TB bug to track.

You might also want to add to "See also" : bug #1824887 (the continuation of bug #1569439 in Firefox)

The problem persists (Fedora 38, Xorg, Firefox 116) and yet #1569439 is happily closed.

Same problem here. Since months (years?). Even with the freshest Firefox - it's really annoying!

The problem also affects Thunderbird 115.x

I had to finally just turn off all tooltips in about:config, as this issue was causing tooltips to constantly get stuck on my screen.

needinfoing :stransky given that it seems that this bug is when using XINPUT2

I think this is a dupe of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1809029 (that one has more info), this bug should probably be closed in favor of that one.

I just realized this bug is filed under Thunderbird, rather than Firefox. Still probably should be treated as a dupe IMHO.

Firefox fixed an initial problem with this and uplifted to 115.
Probably some more work is needed, but this is something that we can't fix in Thunderbird and we need to wait for an upstream fix.
