User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/111.0

Steps to reproduce:

112.0b3 installed, text size in message list and folder list is about 6-8 pt. Text size in Settings is 22. Changing text size in Settings has no effect.
Windows 11 64 bit English

Actual results:

No change to text size when settings change. Text size in message list and folder list not equal to text size in settings.

Expected results:

Text size in message list and folder list = settings.

I'm not sure if this is a Supernova regression.

  1. Doug2, please provide detailed Steps and Screenshot (black out private data, then attach via Attach New File button above comment 0).
We have many font settings, so let's make sure we're looking at the same thing.

  2. Can you check if this works according to your expectation in latest release version TB 102.9.1?

  3. Fyi, have you tried the following feature?
[≡ >] View > Font size > Increase font size (or click on (+))
This is the new way of increasing almost all font sizes across the Thunderbird UI.
Not sure how that interacts with the font settings you have changed.

  4. Furthermore, consider using Zoom feature Ctrl++/-. See also bug 1824550.

This concerns font size in the message list, specifically (not individual mail pieces or the editor). The only way I know how to change the font and size of text in the message list is to go to Settings and then Fonts & Colors. Mine (see screen shot) is set to 20 point. Changing this font size has no effect.

Possible that this should be an enhancement request.
in 114.0b1, in settings, changing the default font size dynamically changes the size in an open message edit window. That would be one interpretation of the function, i.e., to change the default MESSAGE text size. Since I am old and don't see well, I was hoping for a way to change the text size in the folder list and message list(s) and received messages or to change the font size everywhere EXCEPT the messages being edited, which would be a different interpretation of the function. Using CTRL-+ ("standard" Windows action to enlarge the current window content) does nothing.

New Message - Format - Font selection

More: See attached image. Settings / Fonts & Colors / Default Font is set to Ariel size 22.
Selecting "Format" in a new message window brings up as shown in the image - i.e., the edit window shows "Variable Width" as the default font.
Also in Format, the "Size" setting allows the user to increase or decrease the font size, but not to select a particular size (e.g., 22)
If the Settings / Fonts & Colors / Default ... is equivalent to the message window "Format" then they are not in sync. They do not show the same list of available fonts and they do not use the same font size control (i.e., larger/smaller vs a numeric size)

Discovered in Beta 102 , windows 11 64 bit US - The hamburger menu View item includes Font Size that controls the main window -ONLY- even when using the menu in an individual message window. So, there are two or three controls for a Windows user that do different things:

  1. Settings, Language & Appearance, Fonts & Colors controls the editor (only). This control does not affect received message text size.
  2. Hamburger menu, View, Font Size controls the main window font size (only). This control does not affect individual message text.
  3. Windows CTRL-+/- will scale any open message window, but does not affect the main TB window.
  1. Hamburger menu, View, Font Size controls the main window font size (only). This control does not affect individual message text.

So it seems to me that's what you were looking for in your comment #0 and comment #4. So this bug should be closed.

Or it can be morphed to Improve the accessibility: Make the features that manage the fonts (content & UI) sizes more unified and/or clear about their area of action. I let you decide, because I don't want to mess up your bug.

I agree with the comment above. I have created enhancement request #1835332 to request improvement of font size control.

Marking it as INVALID, as the issue described in comment #0 is not a bug : it was more a misunderstanding of the area of action of the setting.

I agree with the comment above. I have created enhancement request #1835332 to request improvement of font size control.
