As explained in the summary, and see joined screenshot: sometimes, a thread can show emails twice in it after reception. I pixellized emails titles (who wouldn't help anyway), but you can it from the "order received" column, and the contain for each pair is indeed the same.
This "glitch" doesn't persist upon Thunderbird restart: duplicates aren't there anymore, and the count in the thread becomes correct.
Here, the unread count counts the duplicates, but when reading the first email of a pair of duplicates, it decrements by 2 (and when reading the second copy, the count doesn't change).
Bug seen on Thunderbird 115.0-4 packages on ArchLinux.

Please post your results of 115.0.1 when that becomes available in the next week or two.

This bug doesn't happen all the time, only sometimes so I won't be 100% sure on release, it'll be a matter of wait and see if the issue occur again sometimes after.

This also happens when sending if the sent messages are configured to show up in the same thread as the received messages, as with a Saved Search folder of both the inbox and Sent folders. See bug 1849770.

I have seen thus issue today during test for TB 118.b5 (x64, Windows11). The issue iscrelated only tò Unified Folders mode when thread Is on.
When the new message income, the message Is show as duped. If I change Folders (for example Sent) and the return tò Inbox the news message isn't show as duped anymore.

Has anyone been able to make any progress on this? I'd be happy to help track it down as it happens almost always for me, so I should have something to debug, but I'll need some pointers on how to best approach the debugging.

I confirm this bug with 115.4.1 (64 bits, Linux Mint) with IMAP accounts. I'm having to restart TB serveral times a day. Also getting ghost emails with zero content after deleting messages. I've seen similar ghost reports as old as 20 years ago, but in my case have never experienced these bugs in my 20 years of TB use.

Clément, are you seeing this only in Unified Folders?

Wayne, I also see this in Saved Search "folders" that search in multiple folders, for example, Inbox and Sent.

Clément, are you seeing this only in Unified Folders?
This is hard to tell; when I reported the bug it was because Thunderbird Conversations wasn't yet compatible with Thunderbird 115, and I had no choice but to unfold every thread to read the emails.
Since the addon is back to be compatible with current release, I never unfold the threads anymore as just clicking them show me all the unread emails…

Seeing the same here, Fedora 39, started with 115. currently on 115.7.0.
My Inbox folder is a search folder that includes the GMail account's inbox and its Sent Mail folder.
When I reply to a message or when I receive a message on the thread, the new message is duplicated in the threaded view. The duplicate disappears when I focus on any other folder then come back to Inbox.
