Was this immediately after deleting one of the messages - I've seen stuff that looks like this on delete - ( a data losing bug since you then hit delete again and delete the wrong one).

I didn't do anything.

Does this still reproduce for you when using version 115.2.0.
Did it happen with version 102?

Did it happen with version 102?
Yes.This problem still ver.115.2.
Change to another folder then back to this folder the ghost will disappear.
I don't know about ver.102.
Because I didn't use Unified Folders.
In addition, HTML mail may be displayed as plain TEXT (source).
Run repair folder then I can see it in HTML.
But Sort change to ascending.
I usually used descending.
Since it does not happen every time, I do not know the details, so I am not reporting it.
Using "Supernova" requires patience.
This is a grumbling.
I will not change to another mailer.

Thanks for this information - so there are not physically duplicate emails, but the display shows multiples.
kita, Are there multiples only shown in a Unified folder/Inbox?

I can't answer this question correctly.
However, I've seen multiple only in the unified folder/inbox.

This isn't just my problem.
Also the person who reported bug 1844007 and bug 1649415.
And my wife.
The Thunderbird team believes they can solve this problem.

Not sure if this is the same issue, but I receive something similar on a daily basis with all 115 versions (current is 115.7.0 snap)
One message received is shown as 2 threaded messages. Some emails were deleted some time ago. Only one instance of Thunderbird is running.
Example: attachment 9376977 [details] from bug 1848738

I don't have it set to show threads, so they just show up as two messages.
This is a new discovery.

While the issue of phantom mails apparently isn't solved completely in 115.9, do you see any improvement regarding these duplicated messages?

Yes, it is. I'd say it is roughly 5-10 times less often. Currently I see it approximately once a day, while previously it was a numerous cases per day.

This doesn't seem to happen for kita anymore, see bug 1847126 comment 18. Is this still a thing for you with current versions, tomas.stan?

I have noticed this once in recent couple of weeks while being on 128.11.1esr. Since I use Flatpak, can't easily have more recent.
But yes, this happens pretty seldom.

Thanks for your quick feedback. Does this occur only in unified folders, or in anywhere else as well? Related to Grouped By view?

I noticed that in Unified for sure. Don't use Grouped By (..Sort, if you have that in mind), so cannot tell you for sure.

Do these duplicates go away by themselves after switching to another folder and back, or restarting Thunderbird? They are not duplicated in there containing real folder?

Hartmut, The last time, it did not disappear on changing folders, but after Thunderbird restart only. And yes, it was not duplicated anywhere else. In Unified Inbox only.

Thanks again, Tomas. Maybe some kind of caching issue…

I saw your post and tried the unified folder.
Then I find phantom mail.
The simple solution to me what not use the unified folder.

Hartmut, my sincere apologies, I just realized I mixed up with another TB issue (Empty message dated 1/1/1970 appears in unified folder) here. No, I haven't noticed duplicates in recent versions. Sorry for the confusion.

No worries. Then let's just close this, since it's now all about "phantom" mails as it seems. See bug 209501.
