Steps to reproduce:
This is BUG 1844534 but only partially fixed. There is still a problem:
Have subfolders structured thus in Local Mail:
TOPFOLDER
SUBFOLDER1
SUBFOLDER2
Collapse SUBFOLDER2 into SUBFOLDER1 in the view pane. Now collapse SUBFOLDER1 so only TOPFOLDER is visible.
Define a mail filter to move mail directly to SUBFOLDER2 on receipt.
Send yourself an email which follows this mail filter.
Actual results:
I received the new email that my mail filter put into SUBFOLDER2
TOPFOLDER's new mail badge count showed "1" ( this is correct )
I clicked TOPFOLDER to expand the folders underneath:
TOPFOLDER
SUBFOLDER1
SUBFOLDER1 did not show the new badge count of "1" ( note SUBFOLDER2 was still collapsed into SUBFOLDER1 at this point in time ).
The "1" badge on TOPFOLDER had disappeared ( correct ) at this time so now there is a new email in SUBFOLDER2 but neither TOPFOLDER nor SUBFOLDER1 have a badge telling me there is that new email in SUBFOLDER2.
If I expand SUBFOLDER1 then SUBFOLDER2 appears with the correct "1" badge visible.
Expected results:
After expanding TOPFOLDER then the badge for the new email should move from TOPFOLDER to next to SUBFOLDER1 ( until such time as I expand SUBFOLDER1 and then it should move to SUBFOLDER2 ).
I imagine this happens for multiple levels of subfolders not just 3.
N.B. Posting removed formatting explaining the folder structure:
SUBFOLDER1 is the parent folder to SUBFOLDER2
TOPFOLDER is the parent to only SUBFOLDER1
