User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/115.0
Steps to reproduce:
Klick Inbox folder of one of multiple accounts in Vertical View Layout with Card View for the Message List Pane and Sort order of Date ascending.
Actual results:
If the lowest (latest) message was selected at the last visit the list shows the end of the list and immediately scrolls automatically from the last message all the way up to the top (first message). This movie takes a lot of time if there are several 100 messages. This behaviour does NOT occur with Table View for the Message List Pane and the same sort order.
Expected results:
If the last messages was selected at the last visit of the message list I would expect the message list window would show the end of the list when the imbox folder in question is clicked like with Table View

I can confirm this for 115.3.2 and the latest Daily. In my case, it only happens sometimes, after which the scrolling position ends up somewhere in the middle, but I think the cause for this is the same.

Now a new bug was added in 15.3.3 (release). In same case changes of sort order are not respected in card view. If I switch from "descending" to "ascending" the sort order does not change, even after restarting Thunderbird.

The patch above is not in version 115.3.3, and so your issue would not have been caused by this bug

The presumed fix for this is included in the patch for bug 1807063. Orplid, please test and report back when that one has been uplifted to ESR.
I can confirm that in version 115.4.1 cursor positions and sort order behave as they should in card view on my system (Windows 10).

But (like comment 5) there is no fix in 115.4.1

Probably related: Thunderbird 115.4.1, Fedora 39 KDE.
My email folders are sorted with newest messages on bottom of the list.
Very often when I click on one of the folders, the scrollbar is positioned on a random position that shows messages so old that sometimes they are years old.
I would liket Thunderbird to just keep the scrollbar position to the newest message

As the root cause of this seems to be the scroll anchoring functionality of the underlying Firefox code and this is reproducible (again) in 115.5.0, let's mark this as duplicate of bug 1866553.
