User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/118.0

Steps to reproduce:

After upgrading from Thunderbird 102.15.1 to 115.3.1, the main 3-pane window does not respect system color scheme. Its background colors are noticeably brighter than in other applications and Thunderbird 102.15.1, and the selection color is also different.

Kubuntu 22.04, KDE. Thunderbird is installed from Kubuntu repositories (the 102.15.1 got upgraded to 115.3.1 in the Kubuntu repositories).

Actual results:

I have attached two screenshots, one from Thunderbird 102.15.1 and another one from 115.3.1. Notice the different colors in these contexts:

  • Background colors in the folder view on the left, message list at the top and currently selected message details in the middle (From/To/CC/Subject).
  • Currently selected line (in the folder view or in the message list).
  • The Quick Filter bar above the message list.
  • The status bar at the bottom of the window.

Notice also that on the 115.3.1 screenshot, the Quick Filter bar uses two different colors for background - #fafafa for general background and #f0f0f0 for the text field background. In the system color theme, #f0f0f0 is used for background, and #fafafa is not used anywhere.

Expected results:

Thunderbird should used system colors by default.

I do not agree with the referenced bug resolution, especially the recommendation to use a theme that is designed for KDE. There simply isn't such a theme and there cannot be one, because UI colors are individually configurable in the system settings and each user is free to set them as he likes.

Please reopen (either this bug or the referenced one). The decision was clearly misinformed. Thunderbird is currently the only application on my system that doesn't respect the system colors, and if that continues to be the case I will probably stop using it.
