Seeing like Mr. Castellani, quote,

[could consider it] if we get many bug reports with valid workflows

(because wanting to select multiple folders is now an uncommon task), I'm giving my workflow in support. I'm opening a cloned bug because I can't add a comment to the original bug.

I am subscribed to many mailing lists, and I've got filters to classify incoming mail onto their corresponding folder, in a folder tree three/four levels deep. Before 102 I could close the root «Lists» folder, mark as read, and all subfolders would mark as read. Then, I think in 102 the «Mark as read» option no longer applied to subfolders. This meant that now I had to open all folders, select them all and mark as read. Annoying, but I could live with it until it was added again. But now I would have to select every single folder and mark them as read.

I am honestly surprised at this loss of functionality. When I first updated to 115 I thought that everything looked weird, with the menu bar no longer being on top. However, the UI changes were something I could live with, maybe with the use of some CSS to put the menu bar on top. I am of the opinion that you can't judge an interface without using it for a few months. On the other hand, not being able to select multiple folders has made me roll back to 102 immediately, and stay there until this changes or I move to another mail client.

In summary: please add an option to mark subfolders as read, and allow selecting multiple folders. I know developers are unpaid volunteers, so I'm not trying to force you to do it now, but I do want this to be on the table for future versions.

(If it's reconsidered, the original bug would be re-opened)
