RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1725127

People

(Reporter: caj-bugz, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:120.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/120.0

Steps to reproduce:

With focus on Local Folders | Inbox click View > Sort By > Unthreaded.

Actual results:

Column display abandons threading, but a few actions later reverts to threaded display. It is unclear whether elapsed time or an action (open, move, delete a message or other) causes this relapse.
Please note that this appears to only affect the setting for the Inbox folder. I have successfully set View > Sort By > Unthreaded on all my other folders and they have stayed that way.
See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1432183 for additional discussion.

Expected results:

Thunderbird should remember that I've selected Unthreaded and not spontaneously revert to threaded.

Whether the folder is threaded or not is store in the message database, the .msf file. Unless you delete or damage the file, the setting won't get lost. If the file is deleted or damaged and gets regenerated, it will default to the new default which is threaded. You can change that by setting pref mailnews.default_view_flags to 0. All new and "regenerated" folder will then be unthreaded.

How many folders do you have in total? Do you perform searches over all these folders? I'm asking since some search operations may lose .msf files.

This appears to be a duplicate of bug 1725127.

Resolution: --- → DUPLICATE

Since Francesco's recommendation (thank you) of setting mailnews.default_view_flags to 0, it has reverted back to 1 and I am continually resetting my Inbox Sortby to Unthreaded. I am running Thunderbird v.115.6.0 on Arch Linux v.6.6.9.arch1-1 with xfce v.4.18.

I note that this bug report has been marked as a duplicate of #1725127, which has recently been closed. Final action on that bug has been Pulsebot's code to "preserve the view flags of a folder that is automatically compacted". Please help me understand which subsequent release of Thunderbird will include this patch? It seems that I'm on the same version as is currently available on thunderbird.net.

Thanks.

The patch will be in Thunderbird 115.8.0.
