Side note: the currently-working SuMo page that Nick linked in comment 2 was last updated in Feb 2023, over a year ago, per the history of its en-US version here:

(Maybe that's fine/expected; just wanted to call it out, in case the SuMo content for this new notification from bug 1890066 etc. was meant to link to a more recent/specific article, or if there were any updates that we were intending to make to the instructions as part of this effort. Though maybe this old/existing article is sufficient.)

For reference/comparison, here's the UI that Microsoft Edge just showed me when I launched it on a Windows 11 VM (where Firefox Nightly is currently my default browser).
The visual guidance that they show (with the preview of what the relevant Windows dialog looks like and what button to press there) is pretty helpful. Ideally it'd be great if we could show something like that, if we are crafting new content here.

Hey Nick! Thanks for bringing this up. I see the redirect is currently pointing to a placeholder article. While we had plans to create content for V126, your insight makes me think updating the existing article might be a better approach. I've adjusted the redirect to now lead to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-change-your-default-browser-firefox-windows. The in-product link (https://support.mozilla.org/1/firefox/%VERSION%/%OS%/%LOCALE%/win-set-firefox-default-browser) remains the same.
I'll begin working on the content updates for V126 this week and will reach out to Venetia Tay ( Bug 1890429 ) for a final review of the draft soon.
