Steps to reproduce:

Opened Thunderbird with profile that has a Yahoo IMAP account

Actual results:

If "Empty Trash on Exit" is checked Thunderbird won't close in Task Manager.

Expected results:

Problem started beginning with v115.10.0 candidates. In previous versions Thunderbird exited properly with this setting although trash emptying was not consistent. Sometimes it would and other times not.

Perhaps continuing fallout from Bug 1788599 - Shutdown hang in nsMsgAccountManager::CleanupOnExit, if IMAP account is configured to cleanup/expunge on exit.

However, I'm not sure there's anything in 115.10.0 that's not already existing in 115.9.0 which could cause what you are seeing.

If you reinstall https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/115.9.0/win64/en-US/Thunderbird%20Setup%20115.9.0.exe does the problem go away?

It also happens with other accounts, not only gmail. My accounts with this problem: gmail, gmx, easyname. Maybe randomly only?

Yes, this is the first version where I've run into the problem. The easiest solution for me is to just delete the trash folder manually however that setting is convenient.

When running Windows Task Manager, you can observe this behavior (in case of the problem):
Several TB processes can be seen in "Apps" of the Task Manager
terminate Thunderbird -> the GUI is closed
the TB processes disappear from "Apps" of the Task Manager
several TB processes can be seen (have been moved to) "Background Processes" of the Task Manager
these processes remain there forever and do not terminate, they must be killed.

We're also getting reports. Looks like it broke by uplifting bug 1862111.
