Meta bug to track the work of better integrating Thunderbird with native Linux. Primarily we will focus on implementing a system tray and hooking up to native notifications.

Hi,

A quick question on the thunderbird_esr115 and the wontfix status. Am I understanding this to mean that this feature is slated for not that release. If that's true, is there a release when this feature might be expected?

Attachment: minimize_to_tray_linux.patch

This patch adds a new Linux-only preference mail.minimizeToTray.onClose and exposes it in Preferences > General next to the existing Windows minimize-to-tray option.

Included changes:

• new pref in all-thunderbird.js (Linux only)
• UI checkbox in general.inc.xhtml with correct platform guards
• preference registration in general.js using Preferences.add()
• Fluent localization string in preferences.ftl

This patch only adds the pref and UI. The functional hide-on-close logic can be implemented in a follow-up patch.

Anyway, this needs to be done the other way around: functionality first, UI later (or possibly at the same time). It doesn't make sense to add UI before the functionality is there.
