Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/128.0

Steps to reproduce:

I was observing that thunderbird cannot read the autoconfiguration file /etc/thunderbird/defaults/pref since Ubuntu delivers thunderbird as a snap package and not as a debian package anymore. It looks like an snap misconfiguration in the appmarmor protection around the snap.

I don't think it is an error by thunderbird by itself, but the snap packaging, therefore I reported it to ubuntu

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/2069966

but they asked me to report it upstream (i.e. here) as well.

Actual results:

Didn't read autoconfiguration

Expected results:

Should read autoconfiguration

Summary: thunderbird snap breaks autoconfiguration → [snap] thunderbird snap breaks autoconfiguration (cannot read the autoconfiguration file /etc/thunderbird/defaults/pref)

There appears to be a general problem with the SNAPs and the sand boxing. A number of support issues around accessing profiles and the internet generally post update anyway.

Blocks: tb128found

There's another problem: Snapped thunderbird blasts logfiles by complaining every few seconds for not beeing able to acces ~/.xsession-errors.
