Steps to reproduce:

Upgraded to 128 (forced by auto update)

Actual results:

The message cards view is "new" and a huge waste of space compared to the previous version.

Expected results:

The message cards display should have not gotten worse, but if you guys really prefer the new cards, then an option to keep the old look should have been a thing or have a "compact" mode where there is no margin around the cards (nor rounded corners, minimal padding, and no blank line at the bottom of each card. (See before and after screenshot).

I noted that the blank line at the bottom seems to be used for threaded mode but when you're not using threads, the line is just empty, wasting space.

There is also a large amount of padding around the inside of the card, especially on the left side of each card that which does not need to be there.

So in closing, please allow a mode to revert the card style to the old version or implement a new version that replicates the old (much better) look.

Beta 129.0b6

Cards View
Blank line below Subject now contains additional space for icons eg: tabs, starred etc - this used to be on same line as Subject
If people use a lot of tags, starred etc they might prefer an additional line for them, so will prefer the design.
But not everyone will have a lot of starred and tags etc and therefore the design would be perceived as having a lot of wasted space.
Suggest there should an option to use additional line or not.

There is also a blue strip which appears on the left when you select an email - this uses up space on the left and has no use.
I know the email has been selected because it has a blue dominant outline around entire row and the background is also a definite colour of blue. So therefore I do not need an additional blue bar to tell me a blue outline is displaying - it is superflous as it has no purpose and wastes space.

Table view does not have same issue. It's ok.

Folder Pane:
The blue strip causes the same problem in the Folder Pane. Blue strip to say a blue outline is displaying on a selected folder.
It would be an enhancement to the overall design to remove those blue strips.

The blue strip actually solves multiple issues.

Summary: Message cards (unthreaded) waste space and worse than previous version → Message cards view (unthreaded) waste space and worse than previous version

The changes in version 128 were very much intentional, with considerable thought and work put into the design and utility for the average user. There is no plan to reverse these changes. But it easy to style all of this with an add on.
