User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:129.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/129.0

Steps to reproduce:

I delete messages in Inbox or sent.

Actual results:

Once the folder is compacted, the content of the message is no longer displayed.
The file "sent" is empty, the file "sent.msf" is not empty. It has the same issue with de file "Inbox".

Expected results:

Once the deletion is done, the contents of the messages are displayed, they are no longer displayed due to compaction. The Sent or Inbox folder should not be at 0k and the contents of the messages should be displayed.

pop account?
Does the problem go away after restart?

Yes I have a pop account. I select the mails I want to delete, then I press DEL. After compacting the content of the messages vanishes.

Restarting doesn't resolve the issue.

Thanks a lot for your help with this, Julien.

We would love to figure this out and if you don't mind, I'd like to understand a little more, so have a few questions.

1.) When you click "Help" --> "About Thunderbird", what version are you using? Is it 64-bit or 32-bit?
2.) When you right-click the "Inbox" and "Sent" folders (in Thunderbird) and choose "Properties", what is the "Size on disk"?
3.) Are you using any add-ons?
4.) Could you please clarify that I have understood the problem?

  • You delete some messages from the "Inbox" or "Sent" folder (but not all)
  • The deleted messages are copied to the "Trash" folder
  • You compact "Inbox" or "Sent" folders
  • When you look at the deleted messages in the "Trash" folder, the message appears to be there but when you open the message, the content is missing

Is that what you are experiencing?
