User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:132.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/132.0

Steps to reproduce:

When opening Thunderbird v128.4.4esr, it opens but is very slow loading if reminders are also loading.
If opening with no reminders loading it loads fine.
This did not happen in previous versions.

Actual results:

Slow loading.

Expected results:

Load normally.

Paul, did this behavior start happening after an update to a specific version of Thunderbird?

Yes, I was on 128.4.3esr, and after updating to 128.4.4esr the problem appeared.

Reminders are associated with calendar events. Is that what you are referring to?
128.4.2 was fine?
Is there any activity or progress bar action in the main window's status bar?

Yes, Calendar events.

While it is working to load the only thing visible is the mouse cursor egg timer.

In relation to the performance profile, is there a way to set that up to start automatically immediately on opening Thunderbird, otherwise I cannot do it, as I cannot do anything in TB until the reminders are loaded ?

The doc has information about doing it at startup

I think that is a bit advanced for me, sorry.

Is there a 'dummies' guide?

  1. Open a DOS command prompt in windows.
  2. Run these in the window
set MOZ_PROFILER_STARTUP=1
set MOZ_PROFILER_STARTUP_ENTRIES=20000000
set MOZ_PROFILER_STARTUP_INTERVAL=3
  1. Start Thunderbird from the same command prompt. Typically (include the quotes)
"c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe"
4. Do your activity (but don't take too long)
5. Capture the profile (step 3 of the document https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiling-thunderbird-performance#w_step-3-saving-and-sharing-a-performance-profile

Hello,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but following a storm I have been without electricity for around 36 hours.
I do not have any reminders scheduled now until tomorrow, so I will run it then, and come back here.

Hi,

Hopefully I have managed to do what you requested.

Here is the link:

Thanks for your help.

The link:

Hello,

I have tried to recreate the scenario using the STR from the description and did not manage to reproduce it.

I have used TB 128.4.3esr( 20241108210256) and after updated to 128.4.4esr(20241118214310) on Mac Sonoma 14.7.1. I have 3 calendars for one the accounts configured.
One of the calendar have multiple calendar events that have reminders set up, when opening TB I did not encounter any slowness. TB works as expected(mails are downloaded, can read /mark/ delete any mails, can search through calendar) and reminders are being loaded without any problem.

Is this problem still reproducing? Can you give me more info so I can try to reproduce this scenario, how many calendars do you have configured? And how many reminders are you expecting to load?
