Steps to reproduce:

This is a feature request, not a bug report. Currently, when a new email arrives in Thunderbird, a desktop notification pop-up appears.

Actual results:

The desktop notification pop-up for new mail currently offers only "Delete" and "Ignore" options. There is no direct option to open or navigate to the newly received message from this pop-up.

Expected results:

Codefragment

I would like to request the addition of a third option to this new mail desktop notification pop-up: "Go to Message".

Adding a "Go to Message" option would significantly improve the user workflow by providing a direct link from the notification pop-up to the newly arrived email. Clicking this option should:

  1. Bring Thunderbird to the foreground (if it's in the background or minimized).
  2. Navigate directly to the newly received email, opening it in the preview pane or a new message tab/window, depending on the user's Thunderbird display settings.

This enhancement would greatly benefit users who frequently receive new emails and prefer a more direct route from notification to message content, improving efficiency and user experience.

Agreed, that's kind of missing.

If implemented, I hope this actually works. In Windows, clicking the notification is supposed to open TB but it doesn't. See bug 1935298.

Clicking anywhere else on the notification should do this, it always has. Perhaps you're also experiencing the bug mentioned above.

While clicking the notification does it, it's not necessarily obvious, especially when there are other buttons there. (I feel "tempted" to use one of the others while I don't want them.)
