Steps to reproduce:
v 146.0.1 (64-bit)
After updating to this latest version, the email/messages list doesn't update when I delete or archive emails. Normally, I delete emails that are not needed, and archive emails to mark as read and place in my archives/read folder. This has worked great up to the latest version.
Now, I click delete or archive buttons and the email view (right panel) removes the email and shows the next e-mail -- but the left email list still shows it and has it highlighted. It's not really there, however. If I click in the list, then it goes away. Totally not working properly and makes it almost unusable now.
It also continues if deleting multiple emails. They all remain in the list. Then if I click one of them, I get a different email displayed.
I've cleared the startup cache, rebooted, restarted Thunderbird, and tried the "refresh" which seemed to do nothing that I noticed.
I'm going to have to downgrade to the previous version to use it.

I did try troubleshooting mode, but it removes the unified inbox, so I can't check it properly.
But, that did make me think of other things. Here is what I found....
-
I learned the issue was not happening on individual account inboxes. It was only happening on the UNIFIED INBOX.
-
I do have a server account that is down right now, so that email account isn't working and Thunderbird gives me the pop-up error that it can't be reached, which is expected. However, since the individual inboxes work fine and the unified didn't -- I removed the currently offline account from the included account for the unified inbox, and now it's working as expected!
Still seems like a bug that shouldn't be happening for just an included email account that isn't reachable, but it does seem to be the issue.
I'll continue to test and check, but so far this is clearly the issue.

You just need to enable Unified folder mode after you start in troubleshooting mode, so please check that.
And yes, one server down shouldn't break it.

While I spent some time trying to reproduce the exact UI repainting issue described in the bug report (simulating dropped connections via iptables and invalid IMAP servers), I wasn't able to trigger it. However, during an audit of the execution path for this bug, it became clear that the async batch engine in nsMsgSearchDBView had some architectural loose ends and concurrency hazards that the following patch addresses.

This patch overhauls the asynchronous IMAP batch processing loop for
Move, Copy, and Delete to prevent potential UI issues and race
conditions.
The operation has been redesigned into a robust state machine driven by
a new BatchTransaction struct. Setup is safely handled by
PopulateTransactionPayload without mutating global state. Execution
flows through ProcessNextFolder, which calculates row deductions
incrementally, and OnFolderProcessCompleted, which commits those
deductions upon IMAP success and safely advances or tears down the batch.
Key changes:
- State Encapsulation: Replaced fragile class-level variables
(m_deletingRows, mCurIndex, m_uniqueFoldersSelected,
m_hdrsForEachFolder, mCommand, and mDestFolder) with the
self-containedBatchTransactionstruct. - Cloned View Safety: None of the aforementioned state variables are
copied when a view is cloned (via CopyDBView). This prevents potential
dangling pointers or incorrect UI states in standalone message panes. - Re-entrancy Guards: Starting a new delete, move, or copy operation
while a batch transaction is currently running is now strictly prevented. - Math Desync Prevention: Row deductions for m_totalMessagesInView are
now evaluated incrementally inside OnFolderProcessCompleted upon
success, rather than optimistically at the start. - Dead Code & Overrides Removed: Removed three unnecessary overrides
(DoCommandWithFolder, ApplyCommandToIndices, and
ApplyCommandToIndicesWithFolder), as well as two already orphaned
declarations for GroupSearchResultsByFolder() and InitRefHash().

The suggested patch might be a worthwhile refactoring, the actual cause for this bug, however, is something different: Since a unified folder is nothing else than a saved search, cached results are displayed on opening. Directly afterwards, the search over all underlying folders is started in order to update the view. During this search, that can take several seconds (or minutes under some circumstances), all updates of the thread pane are disabled for performance reasons. So when a messages is deleted in this phase, the view doesn't change. Maybe the unreachable server identified in comment 2 even prevented the search to finish at all.
I'm not sure how to tackle this in a sensible way. Since this is caused at least partially by architectural deficiencies of cross-folder saved searches, maybe the pragmatic way forward would be just postponing this until the new global message database is available.
