Steps to reproduce:
Empty trashbin by right-click - empty or delete a message from the trashbin.
Actual results:
Emptying the trashbin (or delete messages therein) does not update the counter and message / folder pane. To reset the counter, another folder must be selected, then select the trashbin again.
Expected results:
Counters / folder pane should be updated.

It still occurs in TB 128.0a1 with Unified Folders. It does not occur when Unified Folders are not used.

Additional details:
the underlying (real) folders are updated correctly.
The information of the (virtual) Unified Folder is wrong.

Interestingly, this problem does not occur when emptying the unified junk folder. Maybe a code comparisson could help to solve the issue.

For me, the problem is still present with TB daily 142.0a1 (2025-07-02) (64-Bit), Windows 11.
To reproduce:
-
unified folder for trashbin for several accounts
-
delete some messages
-
--> the count of messages in the unified trash flder is updated
-
select the unified trashfolder
-
--> you see the message headers of the deleted messages in the message panel
-
right click on the unified folder and select "empty trashbin"
-
--> the message headers remain in the message panel, also the count of messages is not reset
-
select another folder
-
select the trashbin again
-
--> the message panel appears empty ant the count is deleted

Confirming this in Unified Folders view. Reproduces reliably for me with a Gmail account over IMAP:
Have one or more unread messages in Trash (e.g. delete an unread message, or delete one before the mark-as-read delay elapses) the Trash folder shows an unread count, e.g. Trash (3).
Right-click Trash → Empty Trash
The messages are deleted and the folder is empty, but the unread count badge next to Trash stays put. It only clears after selecting the (now-empty) folder and clicking away to another folder, or invoking Mark Folder Read even though there's nothing left to be unread.

The "empty trash" behavior I see in Unified is also wrong, but not 100% predictably. Quite the mess, not helped by what is described in 2007281
But UI behavior of bare normal folders is not great either - bug 1944541.
