Steps to reproduce:

I have deleted the saved password, restarted Thunderbird
and on the Popup I saved it including the checkmark "Use Password Manager to remember this password."

Then again I restarted Thunderbird and it shows the Popup.

Actual results:

When I start one of my Thunderbird Profiles, it opens the Popup "Authentication Required - Betterbird"
https://caldav.web.de is requesting your username and password.

Only after providing the credentials, Calendar shows the Events from the Internet.

I tried several times to check "Use Password Manager to remember this password.",
and it doesn't modify the "Saved Passwords",
maybe because I already saved the same password on 30/12/2025 and there is no difference.

Expected results:

It should not show the Popup and use the saved Password.

Summary: Authentication Required - Betterbird - https://caldav.web.de is requesting your username and password. → Authentication Required - Thunderbird - https://caldav.web.de is requesting your username and password.

Thunderbird 140.7.1esr (64-bit)

I'm not sure if it's a duplicate, because the reporter uses macOS.

Should I have a look on the Error Console and optional increase carddav.sync.loglevel to All, default: Warn?
If the reporter on the other Bug also checks the Error Console, they can be compared.

Correction: Should I have a look on the Error Console and optional increase caldav.sync.loglevel to All, default: Warn
or enable calendar.debug.log.verbose or does the issue occurs on another component?

It never hurts to check the error console. Maybe the server rejects the login for some reason.

Do you know if the Profile is stored in a file, on OS, for example json, so that I can easily compare both?

When I use --devtools it seem to work but always shows a Popup "Incoming Connection".
How to allow it permanently?

I can't see anything related to the Popup.

The profile is stored in many files, you can access it via "Help > Troubleshooting Information". You can try comparing prefs.js.

In general, there are too many errors. Which add-on has ID b70ae8a4-fe98-4f74-a171-472550c799ea? Disable it.

The 412 error and doesn't look encouraging. see:

Have you tested a different CalDAV server? For example Gmail's calendar.

How to find out the Add-on/Extension b70ae8a4-fe98-4f74-a171-472550c799ea?
I have two installed:

  1. Send Later :: Add-ons for Thunderbird
  2. Display Mail User Agent T :: Add-ons for Thunderbird

With my Gmail and GMX Accounts in the same Profile, it doesn't show the "Authentication Required" Popup.
With web.de in the other Profile, it doesn't show the "Authentication Required" Popup.
With web.de in a Profile in Betterbird, it shows the "Authentication Required" Popup.

You need to open the add-on's XPI file with a ZIP program, like 7Zip and inspect the manifest:
Sent Later: "id": "sendlater3@kamens.us"
Display Mail User Agent T: "id": "DisplayMailUserAgent-T@Toshi_"

Open the extensions folder in your profile, you should see {b70ae8a4-fe98-4f74-a171-472550c799ea}.xpi.

When I enable the extension "Send Later", the Error console shows this message:

While the "Authentication Required" Popup is shown I click on the Address Book ... and then "Synchronize",
then it shows these Messages in the Error Console.

After providing the correct credentials and click "Synchronize" again, it synchronizes the Calendar/CalDAV,
but the Address Book/CardDAV still shows the NS_ERROR_FAILURE.

I would expect that the Address Book shows an "Authentication Required" Popup in case the credentials are wrong or do not exist.
But this is unfortunately not the case.
When I delete the "Saved Password" for web.de CardDAV and click "Synchronize" again, it shows these Messages:

I have compared both Calendar Locations and the GUID is different.
What does it mean that the GUID is different?
After providing the credentials, thunderbird-test works, too.

Oh no, facepalm, I mixed gmx and web.de.

When I Edit both Calendars, the main difference I see is the "Email".
And the very strange is: In the Profile thunderbird where it works, the Email Address of web.de is maintained.

Sorry, this is totally confusing. Apparently, everything works with GMX.de, but doesn't work with WEB.de? Well, so TB is incompatible with their service, or they don't implement CalDAV correctly, maybe even CardDAV. It will be hard to get a developer to look into issues with a (somewhat) incompliant service/server.

Apologies for the wild goose chase re. the add-on ID. The temporary GUID is not the ID from the manifest. Some add-ons indeed still use some GUID as add-on ID.
