User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:149.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/149.0
Steps to reproduce:
Bug Category: Nuisance But Not Critical
TB version 140.9.0esr (64-bit), installed on Ubuntu 24.04.4 as a snap package ubuntu-snap-build - 1.0
Browser's user agent's string = Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:149.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/149.0

TO REPRODUCE
Open TB.
If unread messages appear, the TB taskbar icon will have a green circle imposed on it with a number in the circle equal to the number of unread messages.
(The idea being to alert users to unread emails when they are working on other things)
Actual results:
The green circle & number remained upon the TB taskbar icon.
Only on closing TB and reopening it will the green circle and number be removed from the TB taskbar icon.
Expected results:
After viewing each of the unread messages, the green circle & number should disappear from the TB taskbar icon.
Just to add that the version of TB used by me does not have any option in Settings > Incoming Mail to change preferences for the app icon.
I am told that the corresponding Windows and perhaps other Linux distros but not in Ubuntu.
I wonder if this may have an impact on this issue.
Please note that I am not in a position to change my TB package from snap to apt or any other package type.

@Magnus
Just had a small update to the TB snap package.
That taskbar icon marker bug seems sorted now.
Many thanks.
**
THIS IS NOT A THUNDERBIRD BUG !!!!!!!**
This is really an Ubuntu app notifications feature.
On TB it shows the number of unread messages.
On FileZilla it shows the number of tasks performed, e.g. downloads, uploads, deletes, etc.
In all cases, it is cleared when the app is closed and reopened.
The overlay of a green circle with an enclosed number occurs with Ubuntu system apps on the taskbar which have user notifications. Each time there is a notification, the overlay is added or the number enclosed is incremented.
