STR:

  • Firefox Multi-Account Container
  • Open a tab in a specific context

Expected:
Context's color is taking the full width

Actual:
Context's color is only over the icon, making it very hard to quickly read/distinguish.

IMHO this is a severe UX regression, identification of tab's context is much harder. Even on pinned tabs, the width of the color component over the icon is super small.

For the record, the context color used to be vertical on the right side.

This is what the spec defined. Now the spec has changed! I'm already working on the new version of it.

You need to share more context here, because reading this from here with RESOLVED:WORKSFORME sounds line we are not going to fix it.

For the record, the context color used to be vertical on the right side.

It was also twice as long (24px vs 12px) and three times the padding from the favicon (6px vs 2px) making it easier to visually separate.

FWIW, horizontal tabs have the same issue, it's not easy to see now what is a container tab and what isn't and to differentiate different container tabs, as the indicators are so small

Reproduced the initial issue on Nightly 155.0a1 Build ID: 20260727131500 on Windows 11.

Verified as fixed using the latest Nightly 155.0a1 on macOS 26, Ubuntu 24.04, and Windows 11 - the container color indicator expands across the entire tab in both vertical and horizontal tabs.

While verifying this issue, I noticed an overlap issue, so I filed Bug 2061111 to track it.
