Preconditions

• Start Firefox with a new profile.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open the App menu and click Create a New Profile.
2. On the "Customize your new profile" screen enter a profile name (e.g. "Travel") and select a custom icon/avatar for the profile. Click Done editing.
3. After the profile is created, switch back to the original profile, open the App menu and click on Original profile.
4. Observe the icon/avatar displayed for the newly created profile ("Travel").

Expected result

• The icon/avatar displayed for the newly created profile is correctly displayed and is the custom icon/avatar selected during profile creation.

Actual result

• No icon/avatar is displayed for the newly created profile ("Travel"). Please see the attached video.

Regression range

• It seems that this is a regression as I cannot reproduce on Firefox 153. I will look for a regression window as soon as possible.

Additional note

• The issue is reproducible only when a custom icon/avatar is selected during profile creation. Profiles created with the default icon/avatar are displayed correctly in the profile list in App Menu.
• The issue is reproducible with Nova ON and OFF.

:cbadau This should have been fixed by bug 2064729 which landed in August 26 Nightly. Which Nightly version did you use to reproduce this bug? If this bug is still present after that Nightly build, then we should reopen this and investigate further.

:sthompson I can reproduce the issue on the latest Nightly 157 (August 31 build). I will reopen this bug.

Verified fixed on Windows 11, Ubuntu 22 and macOS 26 using latest Nightly 157.0a1 (2026-09-02) and Firefox 156 Beta 3 (Treeherder build, buildID: 20260903021706): the icon/avatar for the newly created profile is correctly displayed in App Menu and is the custom icon/avatar selected during profile creation.
I will leave the bug open until the issue is fixed in Firefox 155, so I can verify it there as well.
