User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:158.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/158.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Set media.videocontrols.picture-in-picture.playback-speed.enabled to true in about:config.
  2. Open any HTML5 video (e.g., on YouTube or W3Schools video demo).
  3. Open the video in Picture-in-Picture (PiP).
  4. Hover over the PiP window at its default/initial size.
  5. Progressively resize the PiP window to very large dimensions.

Actual results:

At default and compact PiP window sizes, the playback speed control panel is completely hidden due to container query / responsive breakpoints. The panel only becomes visible when the PiP window is resized to an unusually large size.

Expected results:

Playback speed controls should be discoverable and usable at default/compact window sizes.

Rather than rendering an open overlay card that requires high minimum width, the controls should ideally be collapsed into a trigger button on the toolbar (e.g., displaying the current rate "1.0×" or a settings/speed icon) that toggles the slider and preset buttons inside a popover/flyout menu on click.

[PiP] Keep playback speed control visible on smaller Picture-in-Picture window sizes

Description:
The playback speed control button (speedometer icon) is currently hidden when resizing the Picture-in-Picture window to smaller or intermediate sizes.

As shown in the attached comparison image:

Current Behavior: The speed button only appears on larger PiP dimensions and is removed on medium and small scales.

Expected Behavior: The speed control remains accessible across smaller scales, as there is sufficient horizontal space in the bottom control bar alongside existing buttons (play/pause, volume, and seek controls) without overlapping or causing layout clipping.
Severity: -- → S3
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Priority: -- → P3

Thanks for the idea! I've raised this with my team and there's interest to add the playback speed button for medium window sizes. The current plan is to proceed with Bug 2070673 and address this bug as a follow-up.
