You evil people!
I was using Mozilla 1.4rc1, but when I moved to mozilla1.4 rc2, my bookmarks
dissapeared!!!!
I searched on the .mozilla directory, pero really they are not there anymore.
:(
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. install mozilla 1.4 rc1
2. add some marks to your bookmark
3. install mozilla 1.4 rc2
4. voila!
Actual Results:
not more bookmarks :(
Expected Results:
I *would* expect that my bookmarks would be always there!

You installed Mozilla 1.4RC2 without uninstalling the previous version (or
installling in an enpty directory), right ?

Jo : aren't bookmarks stored in a different directory than the program? Maybe
i'm wrong, but i don't see then how upgrading itself could cause this?
And even if it does then it would be a dupe of bug 195600 rather than bug 200651
since bug 200651 is only a requests for a warning message.
Moreover, under Linux this warning message is already implied and in fact the
entire Moz program directory is wiped.
-> reopening.

*** Bug 209838 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
I was using Mozilla 1.31 (or close to that, I have since killed it) and I
experienced the same thing, except for the fact that it was my first install of
mozilla and had no previous builds on my computer. After a few weeks of
surfing, I had a crash of some sort (not mozilla's fault) where mozilla went
down too, then when I went to check my bookmarks later they were gone!
I can't reproduce it, since it was a freak crash. I thought it might be related
to this problem though.
If I may suggest two items for inclusion at some point:
1. How about maintaining -two- backup bookmark files, so that obscure bookmarks
are not lost forever, if this sort of "delete the bookmarks" thing happens again.
2. Mozilla should write the bookmarks immediatedly, and NOT at shutdown.
I had surfed for quite a bit and saved several important pages, when mozilla
died for some reason, and all the bookmarks I had added were gone.
This error, and I do view it as such, is always reproducible. Add bookmarks and
kill mozilla via task manager. Voilá, bookmarks are gone!
I'm currently using Mozilla 1.4
