User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624 Even though I configure Mozilla to play a custom sound to notify incoming email, the default system sound is played instead. When I click Preview in the sound setting preference pane, the system sound is played as well. This is independent of the wave file. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. In Preferences > Mail News > Notifications Check 'show an alert' and 'play a sound' Select 'custom wav file' Browse to a wave file 2. click Preview 3. wait for new email Actual Results: The default system Sound plays Expected Results: The custom wave file should be played
Works for me (Moz 1.4, Win2k)
I do have the same problem with Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624. I can add that, in step 2 of the Steps to reproduce mentionned above, the system sound is played instead of the selected sound file.
This does not work for me either... tried many different sound files with no luck. I'm running OS X 10.2.6 and Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030808
Same problem here, also using mozilla1.4 release. Beeps instead of custom eMail notification sound both under Win2000 and X11 / RH Linux 9.0 .
On: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030827 System notification plays instead of custom wav file as noted by above posters, but I would like to add that this problem seemed to appear sometime between 1.2b and 1.3...
sound never plays. not with "Preview" button in Properies dialog, not when i get new mail. (i get the X11 bell / beep here) on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20030925 redhat 8 (may be related to bug 221170 on OS X)
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 I configured Mozilla 1.5 (and Netscape 7.1)to play a custom sound to notify incoming email by: Steps to Reproduce: 1. In Preferences | Mail News | Notifications Enable: Show an alert and Play a sound Select: Custom wav file Enter the path as follows: file:///C:\yourWAVfolder\xxx.wav 2. Click Preview: mail notification .wav file plays Actual/Expected Results: The Custom .wav file plays These are the about:config settings: mail.biff.play_sound.type - user set - integer - 1 mail.biff.play_sound.url - user set - string - file:///C:\yourWAVfolder\xxx.wav Which will be reflected in prefs.js as: user_pref("mail.biff.play_sound.type", 1); user_pref("mail.biff.play_sound.url", "file:///C:\\yourWAVfolder\\xxx.wav"); Credit goes to Jay Garcia, who posted the path to use in a NG thread. This was the breakthrough to get my sound notification working in 98SE (file:///)

Looking at comment #7, this seems to be a duplicate of bug 169414. Mozilla is extremely picky about the format of the path string. Please reopen if you disagree. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 169414 ***
