User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030728 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1
Build Identifier: Thunderbird for windows 0.2

I have defined two SMTP servers using
Accounts Settings | outgoing server (SMTP)
to define one
And then in same place 'Advanced' button to define
a second server.

Theoretically (I assmume) I should be able to switch
between the servers by setting one to be default.
However regardless of which one I set to be default
it appears that Thunderbird only attempts to send
via the first entry in the list.

I found this out because my PC (A laptop) is plugged
in either at work or at home. From each place only
1 server is accessible. At work with homeSMTP server
and workSMTP server second and set to default I get
an error message that homeSTMP server is unreachable.
If I delete the homeSMTP server and just have the
workSMTP server then the message can be sent.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Nothing special.
To test I recommend.

1. Delete all current SMTP server settings.
2. Enter a bogus SMTP server (validate that you can not reach or use non
routable IP or name for the server)
3. Enter a real SMTP server (using advanced button)
4. Set real SMTP server to default
5. Attept to send a mail.

It will fail.

If you want more info or test setup or anything please ask.

(Additional notes. I have tried with 'use password' and
'use ssl when available|never', etc and no settings appear
to make any difference.)
Which was you POP account's Server Settings/Advanced(SMTP), "Always use default
server" or specific SMTP server?
I guess your account setting was specific SMTP server which was defined on first
account definition and was set as "deafult SMTP server".
When "Always use default (SMTP) server" is set, is new default SMTP server used?

I think similar problem is probably reported as Mozilla Mail&News bug but I
could not find.

I believe Mozilla/Thunderbird should set "Always use default (SMTP) server"
instead of specific SMTP server on account definition although this SMTP server
is set as default SMTP server.
Ok that makes sense now.
Changing bug to invalid.

Rob Jones, I opened Bug 222388 and this is accepted as a valid enhancement request.
> Set initial SMTP server setting to "Always Use Deafult SMTP Server"
> instead of specific SMTP server
I hope bug 222388 will reduce many confusion problems on default SMTP server.
