Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007
The complete Suite hangs while the Adobe Acrobat 6 plugin is being started. This
takes a pretty long time, and you have to wait for Acrobat -> annoying.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open PDF files in Browser (click link)
2. file is being opened inline (embedded helper application)
Actual Results:
mozilla suite is blocked while application starts up
Expected Results:
do not block, allow using other mozilla "windows"

Hi.
Are you sure this is not because of the Acrobat message box that pops up and
wants to check for updates. This behavior occurs in IE if the box is not clicked.
If the box is not clicked, the browser hangs.

No, that is not the problem. I can confirm it: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows
NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031011

referring #1: I second #2
referring #3: bug 204550 is about not showing the acrobat document window at all
- more like the problem described in #1

I'm seeing this behaviour too - when loading a PDF document, it takes a good 60
seconds (at least) for Acrobat to load, during which time the browser is
completely unresponsive. Task manager shows Mozilla.exe using 100% CPU during
this time.
It's much quicker in IE. Once the first PDF has been opened, subsequent ones
load at expected time, so it's probably a problem with Mozilla loading the PDF
plugin.
I'm seeing this on 1.5

Acrobat 6 is pretty bloated, so first startup of the application is expected to
be slow. On my system, plugin startup is not slower than starting the stand
alone application.

Some people reorted that problem was resolved by Adobe Reader 6.0.1 update in
Bug 204017 , Bug 212067 and Bug 214137 .
Is this issue still affecting anyone using recent versions of Acrobat and
Mozilla? If not, I'll resolve it as worksforme. Thanks.

Reproduced:
Acrobat Reader 6.0.2 2004-05-18
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608
Probably the same effect as Acrobat 6. When the plugin is loading Mozilla
hangs. Mozilla resumes once it is loaded. Minor annoyance on fast PCs during
normal use but on slower PCs it's a problem. Also, when Acrobat Reader is first
installed, both Mozilla and the plugin hang when the License Agreement
confirmation window is shown. It's often hidden behind Mozilla and it's not
obvious to the user what is going on.

I also get a long dead window delay while I load Adobe Acrobat Reader to display
an inline PDF image. Win XP SP2 + Mozilla 1.7.3 + Acrobat Reader 6.0.25
