When I get a new message I want some sound to be played :)
Now if I set the notification to Play WAV file, mozilla doesn't play anything.
It would be great, if I could specify a command to run, instead of playing a wav
file. For example I would give a command like this: 'artsplay /bla/bla/bla.wav'.
Yes, I think this would be a great improvement.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Check for new mails
2. Get some new mails
3. Listen :)
Actual Results:
Don't hear anything.
Expected Results:
Play the sound (or execute the given command).

Dupe of bug 211223 ? Or, if you're using artsd on KDE, it's bug 220035.

Are you using the correct features? There is an option in preference menu. But
then, this is for Window, so no idea if this feature exist on Linux or not.
Edit --> Preference -> Mail/News --> Notification --> 'Play A Sound' Checkbox

OIC, my mistake, your bug summary doesn't match the bug report. Need to
clarify the bug summary a little better because it sound just exactly what my
comment #2 is all about.

As Zook says, this is not a dupe; it is an enhancement. Updating summary;
Reporter (LeVA), if you don't like the new summary, feel free to rewrite it.
This feature wouldn't have to be restricted to the sound; I could see a separate
External notification activity being triggered, in addition to the sound / tray
icon / notification popup. (It would be nice to get the sound working
consistently for Linux people, tho.)
Summary: don't play the new mail notification sound → Provide custom action (external program) for the new mail notification sound

Note that getting the sound to work requires specifying the path to the sound
using the file:/// syntax -- see bug 169414, and bug 214937 comment 7.
See bug 227407, which is explicitly about executing an external program as a
biff action (separate from playing the sound).

See the .XPI add-in that's been attached to bug 227407. This can be installed
in a current Mozilla; maybe it will do the trick to fix the problem with this
bug?
