Details

User-Agent: Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5 (20040207) If 'Empty Trash on Exit' is checked for any of my (IMAP) accounts Thunderbird always crashes on exit. Switch off 'Empty Trash on Exit' and problem solved. I tried a completely clean installation, one step at a time, to isolate the problem. Happens every time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Switch on 'Empty Trash on Exit' for an IMAP account. 2. Close Thunderbird Actual Results: Thunderbird crashes, usual MS error dialog comes up. Trash not emptied. Gnash teeth. Expected Results: Clean closedown, trash emptied. thunderbird.exe/ntdll.dll/kernel32.dll/xpcom.dll
This bug works works for me in the Nightly Builds of Thunderbird, I always keep empty trash on exit on.
Wait disregard that, I failed to notice "Imap" I only have a pop account
I've copied my setup to my home PC (win98) so it is identical to my work PC with this problem, and the 'Empty Trash on Exit' works fine. Equally a colleague with a machine apparently the same as my XP one does not have the problem. There seem to have been one or two of these 'empty trash' bugs in Mozilla - like bug 227561 - which seem to be tricky to reproduce.
This bug has now gone away on the XP machine which had it, although I have made no changes to preferences, account settings etc. If no-one else has had this problem I guess it should be killed.
Marking worksforme, if it comes back we can always re-open

(In reply to comment #5) > Marking worksforme, if it comes back we can always re-open I've just found how to recreate the problem reliably. If a folder is deleted, so the Trash folder contains a folder, then the crash on exit happens. This seems to be reliably reproducible. I'm still using Thunderbird 0.5, Windows XP. Can we re-open this bug? (unless it has been fixed in the nightlies already of course).

I can confirm this bug in Thunderbird 0.5, build 20040207! Same thing happens to me: there's a folder in my trash folder on my IMAP account; Thunderbird is set to empty trash on exit; I close Thunderbird; crash! This is on Windows 98 SE. If it helps at all, this is what Windows reports when Thunderbird crashes: THUNDERBIRD caused an invalid page fault in module MAIL.DLL at 018f:014f6c95. Registers: EAX=00000000 CS=018f EIP=014f6c95 EFLGS=00010246 EBX=1004124e SS=0197 ESP=0066e674 EBP=0066e72c ECX=0066e708 DS=0197 ESI=1004121c FS=2987 EDX=0066e708 ES=0197 EDI=00000000 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 8b 08 ff 51 34 57 8d 8d 70 ff ff ff ff 75 dc ff Stack dump: 00000000 0066e708 00000000 1004121c 80000000 01eef4f8 01eef4f8 10043eb8 00000000 0000002b 0000003f 70616d69 702f2f3a 00000000 100445e8 020f2200 I also can't delete the folder in my trash folder. When I select 'emtpy trash', Thunderbird asks me for confirmation for deleting the folder. When I confirm, the folder dissappears from the trash folder, so it seems to work, but next time I start Thunderbird, it's back! One factor which may be of importance: the IMAP server I talk to is run by myself; it's courier-imap, I can't find a version number but it's about three years old. This is no big deal for me, but I do think it should be fixed, and therefore this bug should be reopened! I'm willing to work with you guys to try and reproduce / debug this problem.
