User-Agent: Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113 After I add a new event in Korean, and I restart Mozilla(just restarting the calendar won't reproduce this error). All the text for THIS month I entered in Korean changes into a bunch of ? marks. Interestingly the events in other months aren't effected. This happens every time I restart the computer or Mozilla. Is there supposed to be a locale specific calendar plugin? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Enter a new event in Korean. 2.Close all Mozilla related windows. 3.Restart Mozilla and the calendar plugin Actual Results: All text in Korean is changed to ??? Expected Results: It should preserve the Korean text. Just the 'modern' theme, no chrashes. Everything else looks fine.
1)Can you attach the .ics files that contains your events? 2)Do you see any errors in the Javascript Console?
Nope, no errors in the javascript console. I tried 1> Open Mozilla(which defaults to Navigator) -> Open Javascript console -> Open Calendar -> Event file is ??? -> No output on the Javascript console. 2> Change event file title to what I want -> Still no output on the console. 3> Exit the entire Mozilla suite -> restart Mozilla(Navigator) -> Open Javascript console -> Open Calendar -> Event file changes back to ???. No output on the Javascript console. I noticed PRODID :-//Mozilla.org/NONSGML Mozilla Calendar V1.0//EN on the ics file. Should this be the reason why?(I'm using English Windows XP Home with the latest updates, but I installed the Korean input system so I can type in Korean with on problems) I can just type all my events in English, but I just liked to see this product perfect;-) Thanks with all the help.
It's been a while since I submitted this bug; is there any progress on this? This has been talked about on the Korean Mozilla message boards, so I assume this isn't a problem specific to the language of Mozilla. This has been reproduced in Aug 09 nightly, too. One interesting thing is, in the .ics file, the SUMMARY part still is in question marks while the DESCRIPTION part is fine.
When you edit the Summary, do you do it via Mozilla Calendar or directly in the text file before exiting, I assume MozCal by your description.
Yes, via Mozilla Calendar. I took a look in the .ics file.
Confirming, since the "non-ASCII chars turn into ?s" is so prevalent, this is a likely bug.

Got the same problem for cyrillic encoding (windows-1251) Interestingly that ics file seem to be the same, but then the Sunbird is restarted instead of my text in Location field I got the bunch of ? marks. Standalone version. User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8a5) Gecko/20050203 Mozilla Sunbird/0.2
I recall someone noting that the problem doesn't happen when Sunbird is installed as a standalone application. I tried the zipped version of Sunbird (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird_download.html) and it seems to work during the few days I've been using this. Can you confirm this?
Oh, never mind. I see you are using the standalone version. In Sunbird 0.2 Standalone the text is preserved fine. In Sunbird 20050111 Nightly XPI (is this really nightly??) the text reverts to ??.
I was trying to reproduce this bug for Sunbird instalation on other computer (WinXP SP2) but I didn't succeed. For some events Location field had a normal content, for others - invalid. After several consecutives start/restart of Sunbird I was unable to reproduce the bug. I have just started Sunbird and got the same - one event (which had created earlier) - has normal Location field, another (which I have created just now) - had ???? instead of my text. I have just added new event and restarted Sunbird, and got the same - first event - normal, two others - invalid. I have just restarted Sunbird five times or something about it and the bug haven't appeared. Maybe this is a solution? But it doesn't. I have just deleted all events, restart Sunbird, add new event, restart Sunbird again and got ?????? again. Okay, now, after some restart of Sundird I got the Title field also messed. Now I got title messed, Location - normal. Now I got some interesting behavior. Then the Title or Location fields starts with "єћтр" (in windows-1251) it most probably to be messed, the if it doesn't. But not always. I'll attach a file, events for June,21 - has normal appearence, event for June, 22 has title messed, Location Normal; events for June, 23 had both title and Location messed.

The first two testcases work for me in the latest builds. The last one is invalid UTF-8, and there are other bugs open on that. If someone has a valid UTF-8 file that still gets screwed, please attach it and reopen the bug. Marking WFM.
