User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040316 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040316 There are a lot of bugs (see 35837) about copying/pasting address book entries. But, they seem to be about copying the SAME ENTRY between DIFFERENT ADDRESS BOOKS. What I have in mind is being able to copy an address book card / entry, and then pasting it or saving it, with slightly different information, as a DIFFERENT ENTRY in the SAME ADDRESS BOOK. (Perhaps this is really the same bug, but I was not able to find a description of exactly what I have in mind.) Let's say I have an AB entry for John Smith at the Acme company. Then, I get to know another person there, Ms. Sally Peterson. ALL INFORMATION is identical (company name, address, telephone, fax) with the exception of the person's name, the FIRST PART of the e-mail address, and perhaps the telephone extension. I want to be able to copy John Smith's "card", edit it, and then paste/save it as Sally Peterson's card. This saves a LOT of redundant work. Note: This behavior was standard in earlier versions of Netscape (? 4.7 ?). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Click on any entry in AB 2. Click on Edit menu and try to execute "Copy" command 3. Actual Results: Copy command is grayed out. Expected Results: Copy command should not be grayed out. When Copy command is issued, AB entry is opened with ability to edit and save entry. Some error/sanity checking should be performed when entry is being saved, to check whether old entry is being overwritten or duplicated, etc. So, I can save "John Smith" as "Sally Peterson", just change the name, first part of e-mail address, and maybe tel. extension.
I just got another idea, perhaps better, about how this can be accomplished. Perhaps when you open an AB card / entry by double clicking on it there could simply be a third button ("OK", "Cancel", and also "Save as"). The "Save as" button would only work if the entry's e-mail address had been changed; otherwise it would simply point out that the e-mail address had not changed, explain what the "Save as" button is used for, and ask the user to change the address or click "OK" instead.

Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. I'm also unable to copy/move address cards from 1 address book to another. Cut, copy & paste are grayed out in the Edit menu. When sending email to a new recipient, that address is automatically placed in the "Collected Addresses" address book, which is fine as far as it goes. However, I should be able to either move or copy it to the address book I want it in w/o having to re-type the entire entry. TB version 2.0.0.12 (20080213)
