Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040421
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040421

Deleting a single entry from the download manager on my machine takes about 9-10
seconds at 100% CPU use.

As I don't actually want any entries in the download manager, I'd like to delete
them all, but doing it the obvious GUI way, marking all entries and clicking on
"remove from list", will take hours.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to download manager.
2. Click on an entry.
3. Click on "remove from list".

Actual Results:
Entry is deleted about 10 seconds later.

Expected Results:
Performed the deletion at least 1000 times faster.
workaround:
- delete downloads.rdf in your profile.
- delete more often, don´t let downloads.rdf grow.
>doing it the obvious GUI way, marking all entries
I don't know what you mean by that but you can Ctrl+A and then delete them.
Also, you should be able to select the first one, hold the shift down, and click
the last one, too.

"doing it the obvious GUI way" = "using the GUI, rather than finding the data
file and deleting it"

Sure, you can. And after about 15 minutes with my machine jammed on 100% CPU
use, I blew the Mozilla process away because there were other things I wanted to
do. I guess I could have left it to run overnight, but that's rather ludicrous.
Craig: A similiar problem was fixed a long time ago, see Bug 132013. For me it
works with all 1.7x and 1.8x on WinNT4. How large is your downloads.rdf file?
Does it work with Mozilla 1.7.x or 1.8a2?

Better (if don't need it really): delete it, create a new empty file
downloads.rdf and write-protect it.
Product: Browser → Seamonkey

This was NOT fixed!
In v1.8a6 the problem still appears! Selecting all items and Remove hangs Mozilla!
My downloads.rdf is 4-5 Mb!
Bug 242521(this bug), Bug 273244 and Bug 306190 look to be same problem.
