The 'calendars' tab in the left of the window always looked weird to me. It
isn't that the calendar tab has on month, and calendars shows multiple months or
so, it is to choose which calendars to display.
This sounds like something that should be in the view menu to me. The tabpanel
should be removed, and only the month display should stay.
If there are no objections, i will attach a patch soon.

So when you select "Calendars" from the View menu, where would the list show up?
Would it be visible along with other views like month view for example?
I found it handy to be able to select and deselect calendars from the calendar
tab and see the result right away in the right hand view. Also to be able to see
the loading status of remote calendars.Would these still be somehow possible?
I suggest we get get help from Andre Black who has offered his help as an
experienced user interface specialist on this.

My idea is to make a submenu with the calendars in it, with checkboxes to turn
them on and off. The result would show immediately.
I didn't know about the status display of remote calendars, as i don't have any.
Maybe a status bar indicator or some such would work.
I also just now found out that the selected calendar defines in what calendar a
new item ends up. I don't have a solution for that right now, i will think about it.
The selected calendar would also be needed for calendar commands like those that
currently appear on each calendar's context menu.

That can move to a prefs panel.
Also see the thread (well, post actually) on npm.calendar
I would like to argue that the calendar pane should be kept in some form.
Calendaring is a form of groupware which helps people manage their relationships
with others.
There are many situations where people need to keep track of multiple calendars
(a receptionist, a manager, a team member, a individual who participates in
several projects or clubs or classes or seminar series, etc.) In these
situations it may be common to leave most of the calendars invisible most of the
time to reduce clutter, and only make specific calendars visible while
performing tasks with those calendars. (For example, a group receptionist or
team member who receives a call and wants to quickly turn off two previously
visible calendars and bring up four specific group members' calendars to check
their availability, or to schedule a meeting.)
Being able to turn on and off multiple calendars quickly (one click each) is
important to this kind of use. Putting calendar selection into the menu greatly
slows this down (three clicks each: View | Calendars | calendarName, so the
above example would go from 6 clicks to 18 clicks).

bugzilla bugs have nothing to do with calendar bugs....

Was a final decision ever made on this? It's not terribly hard to patch, but I
tend to agree with gekacheka that the calendars tab should be kept.
Checking/unchecking is fairly common, and the context menu for edit/delete
calendars is useful as well.
Can someone say if this is wontfix, pending decision, or waiting for patch?
