User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040525 Firefox/0.8.0+
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040525 Firefox/0.8.0+
In the most recent nightly build (May 25th), I can’t install any themes or
search engines (perhaps these should be separate bugs, I don’t know). Anyhow,
clicking on a theme install link or button like those on
http://texturizer.net/firefox/themes yields no installed theme, no error,
nothing. Same deal with installing search plugins from Mycroft. I’ve tried using
a clean profile (why does Firefox insist on importing NS/Mozilla profiles?), so
that is not the issue.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click install button or link.
2. Watch the nothing.
Actual Results:
Nothing installed
Expected Results:
Theme or search plugin should install

By the way, drag+drop of jar files onto the theme manager does not work either.
It looks like it is a valid drop target (the icon does not fly back to the
desktop when dropped), but nothing happens on drop.
...and none of these issues are present in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT
5.0; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040528 Firefox/0.8.0+ ...they seem to be OS X-only
issues as far as I can tell.

I can confirm that search engines can't be installed even on Windows builds, not
only OS X builds
Hmm.. this might be a trunk vs. branch issue, search engines are actually
installing fine on both Mac and Windows trunk (1.8a2) builds.

This problem seemed to start around the same time the profile path changed. I
wonder if they're linked.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Okay, so to summarize:
* Theme install is broken for OS X on both trunk and branch, including drag+drop
to theme manager. Drag+drop works fine on Windows.
* Search engine install is broken for OS X and Windows (Linux?) platforms on
branch, but works fine on trunk

I don't know about search engines, but I definitely cannot intall themes on my
latest branch build on Linux. Whether I open the jar file using File/Open or
drag and drop it on the Firefox window, the install will not start.

WFM with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608
Firefox/0.8.0+ (Steffen).
To install themes, drag'n'drop them to the theme manager. Don't bother with
trunk builds, they're not up-to-date.

The theme manager and search plugin installs seem to be functioning properly on
OS X with the 0.9rc build [Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O;
en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040608 Firefox/0.8.0+]. However, drag+drop install of
themes still does not work.

Installing a theme (drag onto theme window OR install by using link at
update.mozilla.org) does not work. neither with latest-trunk nor latest 0.9
I use the following versions:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040615 Firefox/0.9
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040615
Firefox/0.8.0+

I'm able to install themes On windows XP and Mac OSX with the latest 0.9+
builds. But I am not able to do so on linux Fedora core 1.
Clicking install link from update.mozilla.org/themes Noia2.0 theme does nothing.
Expect it to get an installation confrimation dialog.

odd, this w4m using 2004-07-15-11-0.9 on fedora core 2:
1. open the Theme Manager window (Tools > Themes)
2. click on "Get More Themes"
3. in resulting page at http://update.mozilla.org/themes/ click link for Noia
2.0 extreme
4. in the Noia page, click the Install Now link and I get a dialog asking if I
want to install the theme from
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/themes/noia_2.0_(extreme)/Noia2_Full_2.70.jar
5. click OK
results: in the Theme Mgr window, the theme downloads and is installed.

I just discovered having JavaScript disabled will prevent Theme installation.
That was the case when I tested this earlier. Enabling JavaScript allows Theme
installation.
Reporter, please check your pref for JavaScript and try Theme install again.
Javascript setting doesn't have an effect on the search engine bug, so that's
still a seperate issue.
Flags: blocking-aviary1.0RC1?

Confirm, I have Javascript enabled, and I have this same issue on both my work
(win2k) and home (winXP) boxes. Both are running .9.2, both were upgraded from
.8, .9. and then to .9.2. Themes worked in .9, uninstalling .9.2 and
reinstalling .9 did not work. Tried nightlies and this also did not work.
Would upgrading from .9 have something to do with this? Drag and drop as well
as install links do not work.

clicking on the "Install now" links at update.mozilla.org does not work for me.
However saving the theme, then dragging-dropping onto theme manager DOES work on
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a3) Gecko/20040731
Firefox/0.9.1+ (offtopic: shouldn't this be 0.9.2+ now?)
On a sidenote, clicking the install links for extensions did not work for me
either, but those I could just copy-paste into address bar and moz would take
care of the file association. Since themes are .jars though, this does not work
since the default handler is not moz but whatever filetype is associated with
.jar files (PowerArchiver, WinZip, etc.)

This works for me in the latest nightly builds. I can install the most popular
three themes at update.mozilla.org on windows XP and Mac (other than the Plastik
one that currently hoses the browser).
