Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/7.02 Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5 (20040207) Intermittently, mail is received which is definitely junk mail (identical to other mails which were detected as junk), but is not marked as junk mail. It is marked as read and remains in the inbox. I don't know if these messages had previously been in the junk mail folder and moved back or were just received. This is on POP3. I have multiple email accounts configured, all of which automatically check for mail and check it for junk. A couple of these accounts receive dozens of junk emails every day. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Thunderbird 2. Wait Actual Results: Eventually, mail will appear in the inbox which is marked as read, but is actually junk. This may or not happen at the same time as regular email is received in that inbox. Expected Results: Mark the junk as junk and move it to the junk mail folder. Do not mark it as read.
Reporter, does this still happen with Tudnerbird 0.7.2 ?
Just as soon as I can get the installer to work on Win98, I'll run 0.7.2 for a while and see what happens. Its an intermittent problem, but if it doesn't show up for a while then I'll close the bug.
Yes, it occurs in 0.7.2. A bunch of phishing spam (it always seems to be bank account phishing spam) just got moved from the junk folder to my inbox, possibly coinciding with the arrival of one of the emails. All the emails were marked as read although I had never read them and other mail in the junk folder is unread. The email icon was in the system tray although there was no unread mail. The icon disappeared when I clicked on the inbox.
Sounds similar to bug 200117. As with that bug, it might have been fixed by the patch for bug 196749. Ian Nartowicz, please test with a 0.8 build, either now or after 0.8 is released. (Also, if you still have one of these messages around, you can view its source and see if there are more than one X-Mozilla-Status headers.)
Ian Nartowicz, have you had a chance to upgrade to 0.8 and check whether this problem still exists? Assuming it's fixed, please mark this bug as a dupe of bug 196749.
I have upgraded and haven't seen this for a couple of weeks, so I'll cross my fingers that its gone. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 196749 ***
