Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Constant repainting of the page produced by this bug makes it impossible to use the browser. Tested on FireFox 0.9 in Linux and Mozilla 1.8a2 (20040620)

This happens on Windows too, though the effect is limited to when the tab/window is visible (Moz 1.8a2, ID 20040620).

(In reply to comment #4) > adding dependency, but i believe this is covered in other bugs I agree, but (for example) bug 15838 may well be the same cause, however, the bug itself defines itself to be more specific than this one, and even bit of a different issue (no indication that the image in question can't be see - this bug says nothing about the hidious CPU usage when you *can* see the image, only that it should not be using all he CPU if the image is not visible). Also, while on Matthew's 2.0GHz Linux it uses all the CPU, but on my 750MHz Windows system it only uses ~60-70% CPU.
to comment 5: CPU usage when animation is not seen would be dup of bug 204002, dup'ed against bug 120154

i'm using ff0.9 on win2k. if i switch to another tab, the cpu usage drops from %100 to ~ %1. i've got PIII 650mhz.
